Ely Mae came to us in July 2007. I spoke to Daryl Turner [Sandar Dachshunds] when he judged GPDC in June. I told him I was looking for a wire bitch to show and run in the field. Daryl emailed me in July telling me that he had a dapple wire bitch that I might like. He also told me “Not every judge is going to like her because of her coloring, so she might take a little longer to finish.” When Ely Mae was 4.5 months old, I took her to her first field trial where she picked up her first points. A month later, she placed first in a class of 29. That December, Ely Mae went WB/BOW/BOV/Group 4 from the 6-9 puppy class. Stunned, I called Daryl at home. I told him, “I guess that judge liked her”. At the 2008 DCA National events, Ely Mae took a first in the Open Bitch stake at the host club trial thereby completing her FC. She finished her CH in March 2008 at 9 months of age. She was shown only 7 times and finished with 5 majors. She is the youngest Dual Champion in AKC history. That honor was confirmed by Rob Garrett at AKC. She was a Top 20 DCA Field Trial Merit Award Winner in 2009 and earned her Versatility Certificate in 2010. I bred Ely Mae one time to DC Sunrise Maximus V Ruger MW ME ROMX producing 4 puppies, 3 wire girls and 1 smooth boy. Two are multiple Absolute winners with one ranked in the top twenty in 2011. What a gift Daryl gave me. She has been my “heart” dog from the moment I picked her up.
