“Penelope”
Black and Tan Standard Smooth Bitch
A801455
Sire: Alsvin v Isartal
Dam: Amber of Badger Hill
Whelped: May 8, 1944
Died: November 1958
Breeder: Charles E. Holden
Owner: Harry R. Sharpe

Penelope lived to the ripe age of 14 years and 6 months.  Even at this age, her topline was the envy of many a younger dog.  She was a large bitch, weighing twenty-seven pounds in her prime, but never showed any signs of coarseness.  Dr. Herbert Sanborn, seeing her for the first time, said “she has elegance and majesty.”   This was at her first show in St. Louis in 1945.  She was Winners Bitch under the late Sidney J. Twinning at the St. Louis Specialty.  The next day at the Mississippi Valley All Breed Show, she went Best in Show under three different judges.  [Sanborn’s book noted that Penelope’s win was over more than 500 dogs.]  Great dogs, not directly from her but carrying her bloodlines are CHs Badger Hill Nobby and New Deal, CH Azavic’s Elegant Deal, CH Guyman’s Long Deal, CH Badger Hill Boots, CH Kleetal’s Ingulf and many others.  These dogs have won everything from Best of Variety to Best in Show.  These dogs and the dogs directly from her are producing top dogs in their turn.
— Harry B. Sharpe from the September 1959 issue of The American Dachshund.
